Different CD Name to MusicBrainz Entries

I have a 3 CD set entitled “Survivin’ The Sixties”. It appears it was previously released as “Good Morning Saigon“, the name it appears under in MusicBrainz. Seeking guidance on whether this should be entered as part of the “Good Morning Saigon“ release?

Note: CD1 & 2 were identified via the Disk Id, but not CD3. See Release “Good Morning Saigon” by Various Artists - MusicBrainz

If CD 1 and 2 are identical but you have an additional CD 3, you should:

  1. Create a new 3CD release in a new release group
  2. Link new release group to old as: old is included in new

Try to use the same recordings when adding the new release.
In the Recordings tab, you can paste each recording URL in inline searches, one by one.
This is very tedious, or otherwise, we can also merge recordings later.

Otherwise, I can clone the 2CD release for you, then you add the CD 3 and every other missing stuff.

Discogs has the 2 CD version separate, and the 3 CD versions together, FWIW:

Nice findings!
Having these Discogs entries and scans does help.

We are not Discogs but here is why over there:

  • The 2CD is only a Discogs release, because they don’t know another edition yet, or they have not grouped them in a master yet
  • The 3CD is a Discogs master (MB RG), because they have grouped two editions of same content

Notice that they have not grouped 2CD and 3CD editions in a same master.

Like I explained, we should not do it either, IMO, in MB. We should have two separate release groups (Discogs masters), with an includes relationship between them.
