I believe this will help new wiki contributors and existing editors improve on wiki pages faster if a userscript existed to condense the formatting markup into buttons.

Selecting text and clicking a formatting button would place markup around the selected text rather than the editor manually typing the formatting.

It reminds me of the script I made for the old PunBB forum, I loved that mb. PUNBB FORUMS ENHANCER:
But MB wiki is from a big wiki software, same as Wikipedia, no? MediaWiki?
Iām pretty sure it could be just a matter of changing some settings to activate a toolbar, no?

If you use Edit button instead of Edit source, you do get the rich text editor:
