Hello, I’m wanting to create a catalogue of MP3’s from well over a hundred CD’s each with around 6 to 7 various MP3 albums. I am not interested in options such as ‘selecting and playing’ or who the ‘engineer’ was - just want to be able to scan the CD rom and have fields auto populated with Artist, Album, Tracks etc. It would be helpful to have a tree structure showing firstly a volume lable or a CD ID number (which I can enter manually) and then have expandable sub folders showing albums and contents etc. This way, I can browse my collection and locate the external MP3 CD on my ROMdex or CD shelf etc based on CD id. PLease advise if this is something MusicBrainz Picard can do? John
Picard can’t create any kind of catalogue or library.
Picard is about adding tags to your digital files based on matching to the MusicBrainz databsae.
But it can put the files into a folder structure, if that is what you want. If the files of the various albums are from actual albums present in the MB database the could be tagged and organized into an appropriate folder structure.
For the CD no. you want to enter yourself you would need to add a custom tag to the files in Picard with the number you want. If this tag is present it can also be used in the file naming script for the folder structure.
It would be advisable to work on once CD at a time (with its 6 to 7 albums). Then you can select all the tracks from that CD and add the tag for the CD number.
Thank you for your reply. It would seem from what you say, the CD rom can be scanned and complete albums will be recognised and organised but not an MP3 CD with a collection of ramdom individual tracks . . .
PS with regards to custom tags - thank you for the confirmation. John
What data do these tracks already have? Are there any tags?
If tags, then Picard can pickup these files and move them into a new file structure.
If no tags then Picard can use the SCAN function and “listen” to the files to get a match.
When working with a folder like that you’ll need to play with the OPTIONS \ Metadata \ Preferred Releases sliders to bias Singles and Albums over Compilations. And also bias your home country.
You need to play with those sliders as you are mainly after an ID. So it seems a Single would be a best match for you in many cases.
Thank you so much for your helpful reply! Will give it ‘a go’ based on yours and previous response. Kind regards, John
