This happens on all albums, every single one of them (out of thousands)
I have no idea why - the https://coverartarchive.org/ api is not down (which I suspect this error stems from)
Note: this happens since today, so something has changed but I do not understand what, or how to debug this.
Please enable debug mode in Help > View Debug/Error log, restart Picard (so we get a full log with all startup details), then load a release to trigger the error. Share the full debug log here or send it to e at outsidecontext AT metabrainz DOT org.
The log should show exactly for which request the error happens.
Well, I do not get it. As soon I enabled debug mode, this issue (and many others) were gone.
I guess I will leave debug mode open to see if the issue comes back so I have something more to tell.

Then I delete the logs, close the app, restart the app, rescan, and it works for a while. Then it starts again.
Is this some sort of rate limit reached?
Although I cannot see explicit mentions of this it seems some sort of timeout, thus perhaps a limit is hitting and it just logs a timeout?
Might well be. AFAIK MB is experiencing increased traffic by AI bots. To my knowledge there is a per device rate limit (the one request per second restriction Picard obeys) and a global one. Could well be that temporarily the global one is reached here.
I haven’t done much heavy tagging myself in recent weeks. When I used Picard it was mostly for tagging a few files, and things worked well.
The odd part is “Connection closed (QT code 2, HTTP code 0)” however. Not HTTP error code, and only QT code usually indicates an error very early on when establishing the network connection. Error code 2 is described as:
the remote server closed the connection prematurely, before the entire reply was received and processed
But this can have various reasons with the connection being dropped from anything that is involved in routing this request, starting from your local machine, over the provider to the network routing on the MB hosting and the server itself.
But @zas should know more about the general situation of the servers and whether any rate limiting would have triggered your issue or whether there are some other issues with the server.
If the context is important:
Are you loading these all into Picard at once?
If so, loading smaller batches is worth a try.
Currently enjoying the same error in my logs. Unable to process any files corrrectly, hitting the Lookup button takes usually 1/2 second but now takes 3-4 attempts for it to work.
