Android app login fails with "Could not retrieve consent information"

Hello,

I’m unable to sign in to the ListenBrainz Android app.

Device:

  • Xiaomi 17
  • HyperOS 3 (Android 16)

App version:

  • ListenBrainz 2.15.1.0

Problem:
When I tap Sign in, the next window opens as expected. However, after the authentication flow, the app displays the following error:

“Important! Could not retrieve consent information. Please try again.”

What I’ve verified:

  • I can log in to the ListenBrainz website with the same account without any problems.
  • The issue only occurs in the Android app.
  • Chrome and Android System WebView are up to date.
  • Clearing the app’s cache and data did not resolve the issue
  • Problem stays if I’m logged in on desktop in Metabrainz and then trying to log in in app.

Expected behavior:
After successfully authenticating in the browser, the app should complete the login process and sign me in.

Please let me know if you need any additional logs or if there is anything I can test.

I’m having a similar issue as @Obroki_Elkop and I’m also unable to sign in to the ListenBrainz Android app.

Device:

  • Google Pixel 8a
  • Android 17

App version:

  • ListenBrainz 2.15.1.0

Problem:
I am a new ListenBrainz user. I downloaded the app yesterday, and right after going through the 3 onboarding screens, the Sign in screen immediately displays the following error:

“Important! Could not retrieve consent information. Please try again.”

What I’ve verified:

  • I can log in to the ListenBrainz website via a mobile browser without any problems.
  • The issue only occurs in the Android app.
  • Chrome and Android System WebView are up to date.
  • Clearing the app’s cache/data, as well as reinstalling the app, did not resolve the issue.

Expected behavior:
I should be able to log in and use the app normally, but currently, this error blocks me from doing anything inside the app.
