I have found out that there is the ability to share a review to social media. However, it seems as if there is only twitter, which people are slowly leaving for the likes of Bluesky and Mastodon. I am aware of online tools such as Add To Any, and I was wondering if this would get integrated if possible into CritiqueBrainz?
I don’t use socmed so maybe I don’t know but, is it really needed to have these Share links?
We could remove the Twitter Share link, and let the people share with whatever they want.
I guess they just have to either use the Share menu of their mobile or to copy/paste URL.
No?
This way we don’t take the burden to maintain buttons at all.
@jesus2099 a share button like this usually pre-populates a post for you with links, embeds, hashtags, and text, so it would make sharing stuff easier for many users
for instance, if I wanted to share this review of @aerozol’s, it could pop up a new Bluesky post with all the details (which I could edit before posting, of course)
sidenote, the embed for CritiqueBrainz probably needs some work, as it looks very basic. maybe a custom image with the CritiqueBrainz logo and the album artwork or something? aerozol, you got any input? it should probably be wide, I think that’s a pretty standard aspect ratio for social media post embeds. looking at the ListenBrainz embed, that seems to be the case:
(we can split off a seperate thread for the embed discussion, if y’all’d like to)
I don’t think there’s any plans (or paid/MeB devs available) to work on CritiqueBrainz frontend stuff anymore - we are expecting people to use MusicBrainz or ListenBrainz (or other sites, if it gets more pickup) as portals/links to share and write the reviews, and eventually retire CB as a frontend.
So that work stoppage would encompass improving the share images and links etc. You are always welcome to open a ticket, maybe a community dev will be keen to pick it up ![]()
