Who is the artist? Musicians are credited, but there is no (group) artist name

Hi,

I am looking at the ethiopian jazz release, Éthiopiques 15. It seems several musicians collaborated for the tracks, and they are credited by name on the back. However, they do not have a joint “group” (artist) name.

What should be put into the artist field?

I’m thinking one possibility would be to give the track some special artist (Various Artists? [unknown]? or similar) and then add relationships for each artist (and their instrument) to each track. Alternatively, just list them all as artists per-track, e.g. “Person A / Person B / Person C”.

Both approaches seem unsatisfactory to me so I hope there is a better solution.

MB release: Release “Éthiopiques 15: Jump to Addis” by Jump to Addis - MusicBrainz

To me it looks like discogs has it correctly.

There is a band Jump to Addis performing live and that should be the artist. Then you have various people performing their parts on different songs. Just relationships on the recordings, not artists or feats on the tracks.

You check the artist link on Discogs and follow to the project homepage as well.

Jump to Addis also looks like a title, somehow.
I don’t know.
It could be either project, collaboration artist or title.

For similar case, I have not created a Who Do They Think We Are? release artist.
I have used Various Artists for release and release group artist.
And specific track artists (for lead vocals), and then extensive recording-artist relationships.

Ah, but for Jump to Addis, though, indeed they presents themselves as a group/project, with member list, on their OHP:

JUMP TO ADDIS (tour 2003) are :
.Genet Masmresha, Asnake Gebeyres : traditionele zang
.Wibeshet Belay : kirar (pentatonic harp)
.Afework Nigussie : masinqo (one string violin)
.Olaf Boelsen : alto & soprano saxophones
.Damien Cluzel : guitar & fretless guitar
.Jasper de Beer: fender bass
.Bernt Nellen : dums, kabero

Oh, you’re right @Jormangeud! Somehow (like @jesus2099) my brain immediately interpreted “Jump to Addis” as a compilation subtitle. Yeah, I should have checked out the homepage…

Then I will shortly replace the currently listed artists (which are a weird and plainly incorrect mash-up of the involved musicians’ names), with Jump To Addis - thank you!
