What to do when bandcamp and streaming services' releases don't align?

So Fred Again has just “released” a 46 track album, USB on streaming.

But he already has a record called “USB” on musicbrainz (which seems to get updated to match streaming periodically), and there has also been a “USB002” added.

Why is USB002 treated like a full-fledged album when USB (volume 1) hasn’t?

Everything in USB002 is now in the to-be-updated USB, so should USB002 be deleted?

The album “USB” would be an album if the tracks are all new. Or a compilation if the tracks are already released on other albums\singles. So if none of these tracks were previously released then it likely should not be a compilation.

No, as it existed in that form at some point.

This is the nature of some digital releases. They change and morph. MusicBrainz likes to document the different versions over time. Each time the track count changes it is a new “release”

Edited to add: From a quick look at the guy’s output, I think USB002 is also a compilation. As both USB and USB002 look like compilations of his separate singles.

For future crawlers, I am now much more across the classifications here.

”USB002” should be considered a release from the release group “USB”

This is because all songs in the bandcamp release of “USB002” are within the release of “USB” which would make USB002 a limited edition release of USB, not its own release group
