Hello, one of my favourite artists, Jet Jaguar has started doing a “Weeklybeats” project - i.e. producing and releasing 1 track per week: Jet Jaguar’s Weeklybeats
Before adding them I would like to confirm: they should all be individual release groups, right? Would they be classified as “singles”?
Thanks.
IMO it’s fine to enter them as singles (yes individual release groups), but standalone recordings are fine too (i’ve seen opinions differ on what’s best). I’ve pinged local Weeklybeats expert who isn’t on the forums yet(or under a different name)
Thank you - and thanks for pinging the expert! I’ve got to confess I’ve not listened to these due to anxiety about how to enter them on MB…
Aha, I see that someone has started a series for this exact thing! https://musicbrainz.org/series/f28f6b55-ab90-4685-b63d-c86ee9b9ecd7 (standalone recordings)
Am I right in thinking that Editor “scy” - MusicBrainz is the Weeklybeats expert, he’s certainly done a lot!
Yeah that’s right ![]()
Thanks for pinging me @RandomMushroom128 and thanks for adding WeeklyBeats releases @boysmithers. Sorry that it took me a while to reply.
Yeah, I chose to use standalone recordings instead of full releases, because that would be a lot of additional work for only little benefit. (The only benefit I can think of is having a release date.)
Also, wiki says that standalone recordings should be used for internet-only releases and also mentions
Maybe it is a leak, or a radio rip, or maybe the artist did upload the track to Soundcloud or Youtube but never actually gave it any sort of official release.
As someone who participates in WeeklyBeats as an artist, my experience is that there aren’t a lot of artists who really consider their WB releases “proper” tracks. The quality of the songs vary wildly, and many people use WB more as a “staging ground”. They will then sometimes compile a proper album from a selection of their WeeklyBeats tracks, with additional mastering and polish and stuff.
Some additional discussion around WB in MusicBrainz can be found in the chat logs for 2026-01-07 and 2026-01-08.
Hi, thank you for your reply, this all makes logical sense. I’m hoping my guy makes an album of the highlights!
