Upcoming Picard release needs testers and translators

We are planning to (finally) release Picard 1.4 at the start of February.

There were a lot of changes since 1.3.2, and even more recently (thanks to GCI), so we need testers to identify annoying issues before the release. You can get the current dev version from https://picard.musicbrainz.org/downloads/

Windows users can get the latest dev package at https://github.com/samj1912/picard/releases/tag/release-1.4.0dev7

1.4dev is pretty stable, but you have to know config format changed so it is not very easy to go back to 1.3.2 after installing 1.4 (you can always clear config though). The upgrade from 1.3.2 to 1.4dev should go smoothly (thanks to upgrade hooks feature).

Also, since https://github.com/metabrainz/picard/pull/456, Picard is using ini format to store configuration on all platforms (before the config was stored either in various format files or registry, depending on platform).

Many new features and bug fixes were implemented, and we are still working on few ones.

So, if you have time and you didnā€™t already, upgrade to 1.4dev, and report any issue through https://tickets.metabrainz.org/

We also need translators
Translations are handled through transifex : https://www.transifex.com/musicbrainz/musicbrainz/picard/

I know thereā€™s a newer windows version than the one at that link. Will it be updated, or will the link be changed?

@lukz : what is the new URL ? what is the status of the new build env ?

There is no easy to link URL. Go to https://code.oxygene.sk/musicbrainz/picard, click on the green ā€œpassedā€ button, click on ā€œpackage winā€, click on ā€œbrowseā€. That will get you to https://code.oxygene.sk/musicbrainz/picard/builds/1396/artifacts/browse where you can download the current installer. That link will change on every build.

And I no longer have OS X builds.

Is that something that requires an account first? I donā€™t see a green button, except for the one that says Sign In

This is the correct link

Thanks, @lukzā€™ instructions got me there from that link.

I will freeze features and strings tomorrow, weā€™ll still accept minor bug fixes until the release.

For an idea of what changed since 1.3.2: https://tickets.metabrainz.org/secure/ReleaseNote.jspa?projectId=10042&version=10290

@luks: can you provide tips on building MacOSx package for the release ? We need to set up a stable build env for Win & MacOSx

This topic is now a banner. It will appear at the top of every page until it is dismissed by the user.

Iā€™m sorry, but I canā€™t. I had a working OS X build machine, but I donā€™t remember how it was setup. It was running 10.6 and I had to upgrade to build something else on it. I only managed to upgrade to 10.7 though (the Mac Mini I was running it on is very old), which is not supported by a lot of things either, so Iā€™m afraid Iā€™ll not be able to do a clean install of PyQt4 on the machine.

Ok, @Bitmap said he will try to build the package.
Also there is https://github.com/metabrainz/picard/blob/master/scripts/package-osx.sh

@lukz we may also host the win build system you set up if you give directives to reproduce it (or a docker image).

Could we have updated translations in the next Windows build? Having translations in place makes for easier proofreading than on Transifex.

I updated all translations from transifex just now, next build should include them.

Ugraded to the latest available Windows Dev build (1.4.0dev7), and now notice that when enabling the ā€˜Move Filesā€™ option, the associated files as defined in the settings are not being moved along with the tracks.

I have the ā€˜Move Additional Filesā€™ option selected in Picard, as it was in 1.3.2, which WAS moving additional files correctly.

Setting Value: *.jpg *.png *.pdf *.zip *.txt *.nfo

Gib.

Just noted that https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/PICARD-700 is included in this release, but there do not seem to be any more changes to the source code since I commented on GitHub https://github.com/metabrainz/picard/pull/553 that the proposed changes look to be inconsistent with the existing albumartists field already in use, are you going to update it ?
