Back in 2023 I foolishly, without realising how much my relationship with your site would change over time, registered my username as “thiswebsitesucks”. After three years of editing, using MetaBrainz software, and engaging with the community I have come to realise my mistake.
Could you please change my username to “thiswebsiteSUUUUUUUUCKS”
P.S. Seeing a pretty endless parade of these sorts of sites lately. That said, some are pretty cool. It just makes it hard to know which ones are ‘serious’ and which ones are just a vibe coded throwaway. I guess time will tell.
In an artificial life simulation where survival required energy but giving birth had no energy cost, one species evolved a sedentary lifestyle that consisted mostly of mating in order to produce new children which could be eaten (or used as mates to produce more edible children).
I’ve got mixed opinions on them, on one hand they’re neat data visualizations that don’t harm much but it also sucks the soul out of making something like this yourself… granted you can pretty easily tell which website are. Still just feels icky to me tbh.
It’s exactly the whole AI (asshole idiot) other systemic problem, besides massive and growing pollution:
It inevitably smashes people’s motivation for creativity down, as no public cares or is even able to see the difference… Or, rather even because actual human artistic or craftsmanship efforts are drowned under kilotons of useless generated crap.
But:
Pollution is the massively serious sideeffect of AI (asshole idiot)
Smash human creativity down is the massively serious desired effect of AI (asshole idiot)
It’s humans (probably uncreative humans) who create, promote and defend AI.
Probably greedy humans who have financial interests doing so.
Of course, one of their first plans is probably to harvest millions of music royalties off streaming platforms in lieu of creator artists by bombing said platforms with thousand uploads everyday.
