The General Chatter/Off Topic Thread

These ones I wasn’t sure about the use-case for:

  • Convert URLs with “album/” or “release/” to Harmony links
  • Convert URLs with “/album” to ISRC Hunt links

The Multi-tool I had a quick test but I couldn’t quite figure out when some things triggered - for instance when Guess-case would trigger. The stuff in brackets is what I figured out from a very quick play:

“Performs different actions depending on the page that you are on: Go to next release editor tab (from release editor), apply guess case, submit edit, confirm seeding form and OAuth, reload on error, update release from Harmony or seed it (from release page), go to ISRC submitter.”

“Toggle links for removal” and “Toggle relationships for removal” seem to be pretty straightforward, but I wonder if I missed any distinctions. Is the “relationships” one to be used just in the release editor? Or does it have other users.

I suspected as much. Those are the fun ones I usually use for my weekly release adding (Friday/Saturday or later).
They are also useful for backfilling whole discographies like I did for the Redux trance labels a while ago. (Also caused thousands upon thousands of edits, can you guess the date? :face_with_tongue:)

Initially it was just a multi-submit tool that would click the submit button and similar. Then I tried to make the above mentioned mass adding of whole discographies more efficient by automatically applying guess case when the language is English. It also depends on the new warning messages by @derat. Without them it probably would’ve been impossible.

Mainly to allow fine-grained control and not (accidentally) remove all kinds of relationships. Can be useful to more quickly remove spammy links (and real spam links) or incorrectly used relationships as they often appear on release groups (See MBS-11184, How to remove genre "is named after" release group relationship? or Limited editors can edit instruments?)

Thanks!

I’m still not sure what exactly the scripts that convert album/, /album, etc, do? Are there specific websites that append “album” etc that this should be run on?

With Multi-tool I am still unsure where some things trigger (e.g. when does “go to ISRC submitter” toggle?), but maybe users can figure it out themselves. I’m sure I could also check the code, but I was and am at work :stuck_out_tongue:

Spotify releases use “/album”, Beatport uses “/release”

A more specific example: Spotify Release List is one of the tools I’m using to track new releases by artists. Run the bookmarklet and then you can directly open them in Harmony.

On MusicBrainz (when using the ISRC Hunt script) but also other sites like Harmony (preferably updating releases if possible otherwise submitting as new release), ISRC Hunt itself, MagicISRC, etc.

Admittedly the selectors are still a bit crude and the other checks are relatively new. Still has lots of potential for improvements

I have to test some more! I could have sworn that yesterday the multi-tool threw me from MB release pages to Harmony, but it is indeed going to ISRC Hunt now. Now I’m wondering when it triggers a Harmony update/seed… maybe I just need a coffee :upside_down_face:

Very useful!

I actually use this site weekly!

I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been picking up rubbish on dog walks, paired with the Litterati app (open source rubbish data!). It turns out both me and the long boy need “enrichment” of different kinds

Last week I found a half-buried plastic bag with some interesting contents.

A specialist company can recover the data stored there.

Maybe there’s a love story there.

i guess we’ll be retiring their whole catalog from spotify soon. (27 albums)

it would be cool if something like this could ne done in listenbrainz, then you don’t require spotify since you can also use apple music or youtube…

You mean put an end date on their Spotify URL relationships?
Then yes.
