The General Chatter/Off Topic Thread

Wikipedia seems to have too many powerful people who are allowed to carry out their own petty grudges. I’ve seen whole rafts of quality music pages deleted over there because in one person’s eye they didn’t like the music.

If anything is spam it is linking to the Discogs shop. They might as well add Amazon links

At least now the MB links exist thanks to Wikidata, even if they are well hidden on the page.

Maybe the moderator there is an AI bot?

No, that wasn’t a concern 16 years ago

To be fair this really was a long time ago, and I’d be happy to learn that things have changed. But for me this experience really discouraged me from contributing to Wikipedia. And the recent MB pages deletion spree did its part to convince me things are still the same.

It wasn’t a problem then.

But the first primitive bots already existed.

They counted the number of occurrences of a word, e.g. profanity or Windows, and then a ban.

Now it may be worse or better, because AI has arrived.

But I understand you. It was a sad experience because you were innocent.

I’d like to buy everyone a virtual drink to celebrate a personal editing milestone. Cheers! :beers:

I’m glad I’m not the only one who takes those milestone screenshots. :beers: :beers: :beers:

Note, though, that I’m not obsessive enough to have snapshotted my exact 300,000th edit. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’ve never hit the exact snapshot number. My 300K edit was caught at 300,091. And I do hope that m___ah number is intentional.

But my favourite edit number - the eight eight’s…

Just for extra numerology madness - the above edit was on 7/7/21 :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Almost exactly three years later… oops :see_no_evil:

I can’t read titles but on the top left pile, the third CD from the top seems to be a duplicate of the eleventh from the right of the larger row.

Just checked… you are correct :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: :coffin:

I recognise that problem… as fast as I try and process all my CDs through MB, I find MB leads me down another rabbit hole of more CDs to buy…

And ditto the “hang on - where did that duplicate come from” problem…

The Hebrew Wikipedia has MusicBrainz links very official :hugs:

you can find a MusicBrainz link if you scroll to the very bottom of the page and open the Authority control databases box

very tucked away, but it is technically there

I didnt realise the shelf was designed like that and thought it was already begin to bow from the amount of CD’s inside :joy:
