I found this ticket that I believe should be closed. It seems like a (unintentional) misinterpretation of what happened and is sitting at the top of the priority pile because the ticket filer marked the priority as high.
True to the MetaBrainz spirit it seems the bug tracker is open for everyone to edit. So what I’d like to know is how I should operate in that space. I’d like to start getting more involved over there, but I am not an experienced programmer and I don’t want to step on the toes of those who work so hard to make sure these spaces continue to exist.
This is less about the specific ticket than just how I should behave on the site, but if anyone has opinions on the topic of the ticket itself, here are the original ticket and my comment on it:
The ticket:
I accidentally numbered a batch of songs incorrectly so put 52 files through MusicBrainz (freshly downloaded) and put it through
Scan did all but 14 of the files so I used Lookup, a few of the files looked correct with lookup so I brushed it off and said I’d take a closer look tomorrow, but before that I wanted to renumber the files again (this time properly)
While numbering the files I noticed that a few of them were obviously wrong, so I started deleting the 14 that had been done through lookup (I was just going to redownload them) when I noticed that one of them (I forgot since I immediately deleted it and all of the other MusicBrainz touched files) had a black and white photo of naked young boys with their penises out
At the top of the image was “CREATION” in a font and in the top right was some numbers/letters
I have no idea how this happened or what exactly to report so I just laid out everything I could
The only setting I changed was toggling the rename files option
My comment:
Dorian Craw what was the name of the artist and album you were trying to look up? It looks like the album that was scraped is the self-titled album from a Japanese band named Creation. For whatever reason, based on the data you entered, that’s the album it thought you wanted.
I don’t think the “nsfw” aspect of this is relevant. While maybe a bit tasteless, it’s far from the only album cover with this type of imagery on it. See Nirvana’s Nevermind Album. There’s a discussion to be had about the exploitation of kids for art without them being fully capable of consent, but probably not the right place for that conversation.
One thing I’d say for certain that is if it shouldn’t be closed it should at least be moved back to the Picard sectionand have it’s title changed. The only valid concern here is the wrongly scraped data which depending on OPs reply was either a margin of error thing or an issue that needs attention. Though that doesn’t seem to be OPs primary concern.
