However, she no longer goes by this alias after a certain point (seems to just be “Ikuko”), so I would suggest separating this into a page for her real name and for the alias.
Hmm… didn’t expect this to happen more than once. And both instances didn’t seem concerned with alias distinction, or maybe the name wasn’t enough of a distinction to warrant a separate page?
This is the part that needs to be evidenced - e.g. that the artist was using different aliases for different genres, or was maintaining separate presences for them (e.g. had simultaneous social media pages for ‘KŪKO’ and ‘Ikuko’).
If it’s a matter of the artist changing names over time then we would not split them into separate artists, we would use aliases and the disambiguation to help with searching, but they would be the same ‘entity’.
To add to aerozol, it’s pure artist intent. If the artist intended to make it separate, then we separate. If it’s the continuation of the project, we don’t.
Some exemples:
Muzzy → Muzz. There was no intention of separating it. Socials were just renamed. So we rename the artist
GEN.KLOUD → KLOUD. The artist created a new artist on music platforms, leaving the old one untouched. We create a new artist for that.
What you need to look for is whether the artist want that separation or not. If they consider the two names as separate thing (ex: here’s my hardcore stuff at NameA, my chill stuff as NameB, …).
Just be glad it’s not the mess that Code:Pandorum did…
At the least, when credited as a lyricist or composer (even around the same time “KŪKO” was being used), she always went by either her full or first name (as releases linked to https://vgmdb.net/artist/607 show).
An example of using a different name for a different credit (although the instances are few).
However, even if not splitting them, should the name at least be edited to reflect the current state of affairs?
It’s normal for people to credit themselves slightly different for different things, in particular for composer relationships. Unless they are distinctly different projects we wouldn’t make a new artist.
Yes, I would enter the edit to change it, and add the old name to aliases/annotation/disambiguation as appropriate
