Hello everybody,

The settings should be retained and the configuration file updated automatically when you upgrade. What system are you using (e.g. linux, windows, mac) and what versions are you upgrading from and to? Also, are you using the installed version or the portable version? Is it losing (resetting) all of your option settings or just some (and which ones)? What plugins do you have installed and which are enabled? Is there anything in the logs? Any information you can provide will help. See the Troubleshooting section of the User Guide.
EDIT: You might also want to see if a backup of your configuration file was saved for your older version. See the FAQ section for Configuration for more information as to where the configuration files are stored.
Can you give some details what operating system you are using and how you have installed and updated Picard?

hello everyone, I didn’t see you responding so quickly.
I have Picard Brainz Piccard permanently installed in drive E. not portable. When I start picard, at some point I will be asked whether I want to download the update. I then say yes and they click download. then I install the new version on drive F. I have the amazon plugin for cover and the plugin so that he writes all mp3 in one folder. all presets are gone. I just updated from version 2.6.2 to 2.6.3. everything gone again.
correction: the amazon cover plugin is gone, file name and path are still correct.
thanks a lot
Ok, so basically the “standard” way. Really odd, I have currently no good idea what is happening. Just a wild guess: When you install a new version of Picard the installer asks you to uninstall the old version first. Are you maybe checking the “Remove settings and personal data” checkbox? Or don’t you even see that?
If that’s not the answer, I’d ask you to try the following:
First make a backup of your Picard.ini file, so you don’t loose the settings again while trying the following. The settings file is located in the folder %APPDATA%\MusicBrainz\
, which usually is C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\MusicBrainz
, where YourUserName
should be replaced with your actual Windows user name.
You can copy the Picard.ini anywhere, and later restore it again by copying it back to the configuration folder.
Show me a screenshot of the contents of that config folder. Besides the Picard.ini
there might be older versions of this file with specific version numbers.
Reinstall Picard by running the installer again as usual and run Picard. Are your settings gone afterwards? If yes, are the other versioned files still there?
If settings are gone again first restore the Picard.ini from your backup, and check whether this also restores the settings. Then ry re-installing Picard, but this time when the uninstaller starts use the “Cancel” option (I usually would not recommend this, especially not when updating between larger releases such as 2.5 to 2.6, but most of the time this is ok). Still settings gone or not?
Last attempt would be to remove the Picard.ini.synclock file that is located to the Picard.ini before re-installing.
I have really no concrete idea what is happening, and I can not reproduce it. But my suspicion would be that it either is the uninstaller removing more than it should or some issue with the lock file.
