Separate release group or not?

I’ve created a new release group for Songs of Innocence +, which had previously been placed in the Songs of Innocence RG. I separated it because none of the tracks on this release appear on Songs of Innocence itself. It’s essentially a standalone digital issue of what was disc 2 from the deluxe physical editions, containing 10 unique tracks with no repeated works. Because of that, I entered it as an album.

Is there an appropriate subgroup type for this situation? Adding a new RG does introduce an extra entry in the discography, which might look a bit odd. If it remains separate, is there a relationship that can be used to link the two RGs?

If it is a digital only release of half of a deluxe album I can see why it was still in the main RG next to the deluxe release. Really it is the deluxe album with half of it missing.

I’ve seen this done both ways.

Was this released after the deluxe? And is it on any other medium?

The release date on Apple is the same week that the CD deluxe edition was released. Seems it was released in Japan as the complete deluxe edition track listing (including both disc 1 & 2), but everywhere else digitally as only disc 2.

Edit: It appears that only Apple outside of Japan did this disc 2 release. The other streaming platforms have the entire Deluxe Edition as the same release.

This would lead me to just leave it in the main RG. It sounds like a shop decision to split a Deluxe Release into two items to sell. “For convenience of the buyer who already has the main album”

I went and put them back in the same RG.
