Then Bootleg is enough for this case in my humble opinion…
Splitting this out is becoming hard to know, guess and edit.
Problems around proposed “traded” category:
-
This category can be seen as “unofficially sanctioned by an artist who may, or may not, hold copyright”. Which puts this category outside the “copyright compliant-copyright violating” binary.
-
Instances where the existence of permission can be determined from documentary evidence will be (I think) be a very small proportion of possible cases. I think most artist would not leave documents around for their label and us to read. Which would leave editors to rely on their personal understandings. [emoji denoting wild melee]

The impression I got on searching dime a dozen, roio and traders den, is that “traded” already has a clear meaning around non-official popular music recordings and that meaning includes straight-up bootlegs.
MB already has too many anti-intuitive, uncommon-meaning words that make life difficult for new users.
I think this is what it comes down to: If we don’t agree on adding a new release status then how can we add the info where to find such a release?
Adding a whole new type just for a specific (pirate?) download site?
There must be other ways, like a tag or annotation on a bootleg release (group).
I only asked how else we could do it, I didn’t suggest to add a new link type.
like a tag
I actually like that idea.
