Please Help Me Correct

Name: Handel’s Messiah
MBID: 46b0bcb0-672b-4110-a829-426b4794b78e

I’m new at adding releases. The above is a Release Group I added. It is from a 3-disc digipak. When adding the 2nd disc I could not get rid of the tracks added automatically from the 1st disc and so now it seems like the 2nd disc is a 2-disc release. I don’t know how to fix it.

Also, the digipak has a Cat ID but each disc has that printed on it with the disc number as a hyphened suffix. On the 3rd disc I entered both, but not sure if that is best practice.

Would appreciate any guidance.

Looks to me they all should be merged into a one 3 disc release.
All discs can have their own titles.

As there is now one release with two discs, you could add the third missing medium into it and adjust the disc titles.
After that you could cancel the single disc edits, so they should disappear.

I agree that there should be single group release comprised of 3 discs each with their own title. But I think that is what is shown under the group release. I looks to me that the problem is that the release “His Trial and Death” includes the first disc incorrectly along with the tracks for the 2nd disc. I don’t know how I did that or how to correct it.

@jdpavek - I think you are misunderstanding the definition of a “Release”. A “Release” is the product you hold in your hand. With all three CDs in that one Release. The contents of the Digipak is the “Release”

These three separate discs should be merged into one “Release” leaving just this one release in the “Release Group”

A “Release Group” are for the different versions you can buy - reissues, digital versions, different countries, etc.

To merge them is a little messy now. But can be done. Time to learn new tricks. I’ve spotted your artwork so we can tell which disk is which.

To Merge:

  • First, go into each release and shuffle the medium up and down until you get them to the correct CD number.

  • Second, Merge the two releases that would now make up a three CD release.

And set the positions / order on the merge page, make sure to select “append mediums”

  • Third, for that loose duplicate disk it is a little messier. You need to “add medium” to that release until it also shows as three medium. For each of the new blank CDs you can tick the box " I don’t know the tracklist for this medium." to make the other two medium just empty. Now you can merge this on top of the other release.
  • Finally, rename the Release to “Handel’s Messiah” and each Medium gets the disc sub-titles on the track page.

These above steps will need voting through and will take up to a week to complete.

If you want this tidied up for you, just ask and I’ll fix it for you. Posting here should also get some extra votes to speed it through. Do give it a go to fix yourself as making a mess is the best way to learn the system

@IvanDobsky, thank you for your time and effort on putting together this tutorial. I do believe in this

and have made some progress with success with your 1st and 3rd actions. I tried step 2 three times and did something wrong or maybe it takes some time for MB to update but this is what I see now.

Click on Open Edits and you’ll see your edit has been queued up. Anything that causes a larger change will be queued up for votes.

You can make changes to a newly added release in the first 24 (or 48?) hours and it will instantly update it. Anything after that initial window goes into a queue for people to vote on.

You can also see this on the My Data \ My Open Edits menu at the top of the page

From there you will see your edits as they are standing the queue. Votes from people will speed the changes up, otherwise it takes 7 days.

I think you have generally got the edits correct. (Only had a quick glance) You could cancel your duplicates, but it won’t really matter as the duplicated edits will quietly fail after the earlier edit goes through.

Good to see you had a go at fixing this. Best way to learn the system.

Thank you @IvanDobsky for your help. I will check back on this after the merge and then may have a question or two. Appreciate your time.
