Picard feature proposal: Automatic Tagger

IMHO, a new feature in Picard would be useful:

Automatic Tagger

The effectiveness and accuracy of such a feature is 99% – regarding Artist and Title. Tested on my large sample – 16k+. Albums are also found correctly, but a lot depends on the position of the sliders in the Preferred Releases section. In this case, you’d have to decide.

This feature would only find the artist, title, album, and cover.

The user would simply have to do the following:

  1. Ask: “Are you happy with 99% accuracy of the tags?” If so, proceed.

  2. Add a directory with audio files.

  3. Click the AutoTag button.

Here, Picard would do some work.

  1. Click Save.

Optionally, a question would appear: “Do you want to rename the files based on these tags?”

Then, if you agree, Picard would do it.

On the Picard side, the steps would be:

  1. Ignore MBIDs when loading new files
  2. Adding a directory
  3. Scan
Here, Picard would retrieve tags from the database
  4. Saving tags to files
  5. “Do you want to rename files based on these tags?”

A script could be used here to rename files. It’s best to keep the existing track.
e.g., track. artist - title

EDIT:
You can also add at the beginning that this is currently an experimental feature.

As part of this pre-implementation experiment, MB members with audio files could help with this.

  1. First, you need to create a list of files in your ordered collection.
  2. Make a copy of the directory on which to run my method.
  3. Create a list of files after applying AutoTag.
  4. Compare the two file lists.
