Picard abnormally slow

Greetings,

I am using latest Picard (as always) 2.12.3. My OS is Windows 11 Pro (with latest updates).

Since last update, I am getting terrible, long waiting for any lookup I do from Picard. I’ve tried on numerous tracks, it’s always the same. I have fast internet connection (which is always idle when trying Picard).

Any idea?

Cover Art Archive is currently down.

When trying to load a release in Picard that has some CAA scans, it will hang there for several minutes:

[loading album information]

Looking at the console logs, you should see (I replaced MBID by xxx):

E: 19:34:01,985 webservice._handle_reply:535: Network request error for https://archive.org/download/mbid-xxx/index.json -> Error transferring https://archive.org/download/mbid-xxx/index.json - server replied: Service Temporarily Unavailable (QT code 403, HTTP code 503)

Then last error and the release finishes loading:

archive.org is down right now but I also have seen album lookups to be unstable for the past week or so as well.

Internet Archive is experiencing very bad DDoS at the moment, so it impacts Cover Art Archive. You may want to disable CAA in Options until things come back to normal. See Cover Art Options — MusicBrainz Picard v2.12.3 documentation (uncheck Cover Art Archive: options in Cover Art Providers).

Same issue here, it seems this is not related to the version of the application, so, hope this will fixed soon.

Can confirm unchecking Cover Art Archive in settings fixes the problem. Obviously, that means you won’t be embedding your cover art when you save, but it’s still better than nothing. Awful that the IA is being put through this cyberattack. Of all the sites to pick on! Sigh.

This issue is still going on. Very frustrated at the slowness of loading album info. All i get if I’m luck is an acoustic ID but nothing else. Is this being addressed does anyone know??

Sure the Internet Archive team is working on recovering their site. In the meantime the best you can do is to disable the cover art archive in Picard options.

archive.org is down. See Internet Archive down, possibly hacked

I’m on Windows 10 and the latest version of Picard. When I either tag an album on musicbrainz into picard or scan the audio files, the program will be stuck on “loading album information” for a few minutes. It will eventually load the album, although it says that there was a processing error that says

CAA JSON error: Host not found
CAA JSON error: Host coverartarchive.org not found

what can I do to fix this?

the site that hosts cover art is currently down, so I believe this can be fixed by simply turning off cover art for now

That is what I had to do.

I think I got it for now. Thanks

Appears the system is back up loading album art and other information. I just tested about 30 different single mp3 files and all took without incident. Keep calm and carry on. Thanks to the MBP team that assisted in bringing this back. Never knew how much something is so important to your hobby until it is no longer available.
