One More Wish (Wuthering Waves) release groups: merge or separate?

Hi,

I was going through Cö shu Nie’s discography and noticed there was no sign of their single “One More Wish”. Upon further inspection, I found these two release groups, One More Wish and One More Wish, under 鸣潮先约电台 (Wuthering Waves).

So, as of now there is:

  • One RG credited to Wuthering Waves only, with one Release credited to Cö shu Nie & Wuthering Waves, which is the release linked on Cö shu Nie’s official website, that can be found on most streaming platforms and stores, and which contains the Japanese, English and Instrumental versions (3 tracks)
  • One RG credited to Wuthering Waves only, with
    • one Release credited to Wuthering Waves, 雷雨心 & Jung Soyeon, that can be found on most streaming platforms and stores, and which contains the Chinese and Korean versions (2 tracks)
    • one Release credited to 鸣潮先约电台 (Wuthering Waves) & Cö shu Nie, which seems like a 2-in-1 release for the Chinese market with all the previous mentioned versions (5 tracks).

My questions are:

  • Should those be three different RGs?
  • Should the first two releases have some kind of relationship to the third release? (maybe Included in?)
  • Should the first RG be credited to Cö shu Nie & 鳴潮 (or Cö shu Nie & Wuthering Waves? see this Harmony metadata grab)
  • Should they be merged into one RG? And if so, what would the AC be for this new RG? I’m not for this solution, it feels kinda wrong to only credit Wuthering Waves.

It’s become annoyingly common for video game series (or publishers) to insert themselves into the ‘artist’ field on streaming platforms because there’s no other good way to sort/group things on Spotify (and I’m sure it doesn’t hurt the algorithm, either).

In MusicBrainz, games (and their publishers) are not artists, unless they really do have an internal team of composers that presents as a ‘group’ of that name.

Whenever the actual artist is known/can be found, the games/publishers should be removed from the MusicBrainz artist field and replaced with the musician/composer. Music related to media can instead be grouped using series, tags, often the label, etc, on MB.

Yeah I did not think about that. I guess Wuthering Waves (or better yet, Kuro Games) has an in-house team (which I think jixwang is a part of, but I’m not entirely sure since I couldn’t find an official source) which composes the main soundtrack. Should releases such as To the New World (which is a main soundtrack album, and not an external collaboration) be also credited to the artist(s)?

Other than that, should the RGs be merged into one under Cö shu Nie only? (since the first release is theirs) I’d also remove 鸣潮先约电台/Wuthering Waves from the credits and put the RG in the Wuthering Waves series.

I don’t know enough about the music to say if there’s an in-house music team that is doing these tracks (e.g. if you credit only jixwang, if a whole team is being excluded).

However, based on the credits at Tidal, for instance, it seems like there is a solo composer for tracks and thus just they can/should be credited: To the New World by Wuthering Waves on TIDAL

The first track that is only credited to Wuthering Waves has composers N2V., VISION SOUND, xTOx, which seems like they’ve brought in a music production team. So I’m leaning towards them not having an internal music ‘group’.

The release groups should be merged, yes. Once/if you’ve removed Wuthering Waves from one of them you will have to change the RG artist anyway. What it’s merged/changed into (e.g. the band or individuals credited, or whatever) you’ll know best.
