Napster gone

It appears Napster is no longer a streaming service and is moving into some sort of AI site. All Napster links now forward to https://www.napster.com/

I honestly don’t know how to do the bot thing, but if someone wants to create a bot that can mark all Napster URLs as ended that’d be cool.

From Wikipedia: “On March 25, 2025, Napster was sold to Infinite Reality for $207 million.[5] Following a 2025 lawsuit by Sony Music due to unpaid licensing fees, Napster removed its music library and announced a business model change to a subscription service for music produced by artificial intelligence with related hardware and software products.[29][30]

The biggest surprise is that Napster was still a thing in 2025!

It’s not the same Napster from Metallica rage days. It’s what used to be Rhapsody.

There’s something wrong with the human race. Even if a song cost 1 cent, people would still prefer to download it for free (or, more accurately, steal it).

Lawyers have never been able to defeat torrents. People would say, “We only share text files.”

Or, “You can download it for free, but delete it after 24 hours.”

We were apparently already blocking the new kind of Napster links for a long time, but nobody seemed to use the service or at least could be bothered to help me figure it out (it was blocked for me in Europe) so I could never update them. Not sure what is going on now exactly or what to do with MBS-13490 anymore - the link in that ticket description does work and shows some stuff that looks suspiciously like Nirvana bootlegs now
