Merging a release with different track lengths - impossible?

I am trying to tidy up this release group. One of the listings stuck out to me – ‘Goodbye to the Island’ (CD) UPC 5013929050327, release year 2020, no country, and script in Thai. It shares the barcode with a previous edition, GLAM CD 103 (2010) and all the external links for this Thai release point to a different edition.

It matches the track listing from Disc 4 of The RCA Years. I was the compiler for that box set and I know for sure we never issued the individual discs to be sold separately. I previously tried removing the release but another editor recommended a merge instead. However, as the track listings don’t match – the box set has three other discs – I don’t see how it’s possible to merge it with the box set.

Any recommendations on how to proceed are much appreciated - thank you.

Recommend: Merge it to this release: Release “Goodbye to the Island” by Bonnie Tyler - MusicBrainz

I’d pick that one as the track list matches, and its in the same RG.

Setup a series of “remove” edits on all the bogus data in the bad release, maybe link to this forum conversation, then merge into that other one.

Sometimes the “Merge, don’t delete” can be a bit too strongly followed by some. But there is a logic to it.

If it was to be merged into the boxset version, you’d need to edit the bad release to make the single CD “Medium 4” by using the arrows in the corner to increase it to the matching disc4 of the boxset.

Sounds like lots work. Took me several seconds.

Resolved, thanks so much!

I try and teach people to do it themselves so they don’t need to ask next time. True, it is quicker to fix for us old hands than it is to type out the instructions.
