This release group Release group “Moments” by Lull - MusicBrainz consists of releases where each recording is named “Moment xx”, where xx is a number between 1 and 100. The recordings are officially untitled, but they all have a recording name alias “Moment xx”.

It appears that the mapper always finds the same recording, no matter which number there is in the search term, and the result is always “Moment 1”. I could swear that in my previous testing few days ago the result was always “Moment 35”, but it changed now. Example search: ListenBrainz MBID Mapper 2.0.

Sorry for the delay, January was really brutal on me.

Thanks for digging up this edge case – while I won’t do much to improve this general case right now, I saw that only one recording_alias was processed per artist, which is… useless in this case.

A future update should make this work better – for the short/medium term the recording_aliases are going to be key!

Everyone: I’ve turned on automatic updates and now any data entered into MusicBrainz should show up about an hour later in the mapper.

Please test this to make sure that the data update system is working.

This fails to link to Release “Dances from Terpsichore, 1612” by Michael Praetorius; New London Consort, Philip Pickett - MusicBrainz

I have a question regarding albums that share the same title (diferent release group) but are re-recorded versions. In such cases, they are no longer the same recording. For example, Rotting Christ - Aealo (2010) and Rotting Christ - Aealo (2026) have the same title but represent different recordings. Would it be possible to optionally include the album release year or something to help differentiate between these cases? Currently, since they share the same album title, the mapper only displays the first one that was created, as i think.
