Is there an option or plugin to enable deletion from the file browser?

To be clear, I am not talking about scripting or automating this at all, Picard doesn’t enable that and I think that’s wise. I mean simply having the option in the right-click context menu to delete highlighted files as well as load them. With my current workflow (basically i am replacing some albums which have good meta-data but bad actual-data issues like fake bitrates or termination errors) it would be nice to be able to do everything in Picard without having to alt-tab out and go to a new folder in Explorer to delete the old files in between loading the metadata and loading the replacement files.

No, there is currently no such option. I think there was a plugin once that allowed you to delete files that you had loaded into Picard, but I can’t find info about this. Also we have a ticket at

As far as I am aware nobody actually asked about deleting files from the file browser, but that would of course make sense.

I think we should add this to Picard, both for deleting loaded files and arbitrary files in the file browser. Probably behind an option to enable this functionality to avoid new users confusing this with just removing files from Picard’s UI. Or at least integrate this with the systems trash (this requires some research to support this cross-platform).

send2trash seems like a good attempt at “solving” this, so no need to reinvent the wheel here…

Yeah, I had already had linked it in the ticket. Qt would also offer an alternative platform independent function.
