How to wean MusicBrainz Picard to look for collections of "Various artists"?

I’m tidying up my audio library. It is annoying that MusicBrainz Picard, along with official releases, also adds compilations, the performers of which are listed as “Various Artists”. How do I get MBP to search only for original releases, and not collections of “Various Artists”.

You can adjust the preferred release types in the MusicBrainz Picard settings:

In your case, I would move the slider for “Compilation” to the left side. Maybe “Soundtrack” and others too.

I tried, but these collections still appear.

Are you using Lookup or Scan? Use Lookup. That just matches your tags.

On those sliders also shove Album and Single to far right.

Problem is this isn’t how Picard is designed to be used. It is trying to find a true match, not a “which album did this originally come from” match. So you have to mess with the settings to get what you want.

I’ve moved all my various artist’s compilations to separate directory hierarchy so that they can be handled differently.’For example most tracks
are singles.
