hi!
StyleMonkey ApekattQuest here!
We’ve been working on updating the [user documentation](https://bookbrainz-user-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/#style/entities/author/) behind the scenes quite a lot!
Back in February I and @mr_monkey set up a roadmap on how to tackle improving the user-docs, we’ve added stub-pages for each entity and we decided on a new theme that makes everything look a lot clearer!
I’ve been working on each page and the Author page has come to the point where we’d like suggestions for examples to clarify bits in the doc:

Without further ado we are looking for:

- Examples of groups or collectives of authors
- Examples of Personas, specifically those not just Pen Names, but which are also characters in a book.
- Examples of Pen Names, this is for things that should be Author Credits & aliases.
- Examples of people who exist in the database but are not writers, eg. photographers, pencillers, etc
- Examples of Author Credits that differs from the Author’s name

We’d also like examples of anything you think we _should_ have examples of. Read the current page and suggests examples _you_ think will help explain points better!

(note, this page is a **Work in Progress!!** That means that the latter bit here might be a bit wobbly and confusing, you can just ignore any part that looks unfinished or confusing for now :D)

[Oliver Wyman](https://bookbrainz.org/author/be52441a-1682-4c71-a72d-3f8f4e7147ef) is a narrator that uses the pseudonym “Cliff Kirk” for material with mature content, like [Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, Vol. 1](https://bookbrainz.org/edition/fdcddf55-e12f-4aee-a641-9f30ed2c67c0).

English translations of Japanese literature will often have an official name using the Japanese script that differs from the name credited on an English release. See [The Apothecary Diaries, Volume 1](https://bookbrainz.org/edition/d73554df-e591-42fa-9a00-0266d7f8dcfa) for an example where the author and illustrator are credited using the romanized versions of their names.

I have plenty of examples of non-author credits:

- [Taylor Engel](https://bookbrainz.org/author/9b76929e-9967-49ed-a838-e1e23464f00f) - translator
- [Clay Gardner](https://bookbrainz.org/author/a45ce3bf-0208-4745-85dc-d395e37a4772) - graphic designer
- [Koichi](https://bookbrainz.org/author/ff064e19-8dfd-473f-99d8-1f0ecbbbdd1d) - photographer
- [Jennifer LeBlanc](https://bookbrainz.org/author/68cc3e13-d796-44db-bdcf-61251ce92aff) - editor
- [Abigail Blackman](https://bookbrainz.org/author/6a41c5d8-96fa-475a-8795-769ac22cf8b4) - letterer
- [Dayna Abel](https://bookbrainz.org/author/5eb369d9-5a73-4e02-a8a5-e43db8b7553e) - proofreader

[James S. A. Corey](https://bookbrainz.org/author/c5c71242-f54c-4327-9510-a81064a9a852) is a “pen name” which is actually a collective of two writers and their main works (the Expanse series) are pretty well known.

An example I remember was mentioned was Newt Scamander, as the book _Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them_ is published as written by him (a character), not J.K. Rowling, who actually wrote it.

Are there examples other you’re still looking for?

I had a similar example with ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’, supposedly written by “Lemony Snicket” who appears as the narrator of the book series, but really a persona of Daniel Handler.
