Oh man, I share your concern. But I don’t think it’s unique to this issue. Trolls or uninformed but well meaning editors could (and sometimes do) worsen data where there’s no voters
To address this specific issue it would have to make the straight up difficult call, for instance one of the following:
- When a trans artist’s intent is to not have their deadname stored, replace all instances of the deadname in the db with their living name.
- When a trans artist’s intent is to not have their deadname stored, add new releases, dated at the transition, and propagate the name change to any release groups, recordings, and works.
- When a trans artist’s intent is to not have their deadname stored, leave all existing data as it is.
I don’t think it would at all be a technically difficult guideline by MB’s standards - socially difficult, no doubt.
Discussion should be taken into account, and perhaps some external input sought - I do think that’s MB employee/admin territory at that point.
