I have some very sad new to share – David Saunders, AKA drsaunde has passed away:
This is incredibly sad news. I didn’t know him personally, but he’s been an important presence here on MusicBrainz for about as long as I have used the site and he was always very patient in the face of the hundreds (thousands?) of area requests he received (and fulfilled).
drsaunde had an outsized influence on MB and will be greatly missed.
He uploaded a lot of artist images on Last.fm back in the day, and I also discovered new music through his nearly-encyclopedic library there. He anticipated the Event Art Archive for a long time and definitely pushed me to finish it last year…I’m glad he got to see it released.
Although we didn’t have too much interaction, the first time he communicated and tried to help me on one of my edits was back in 2009. So that’s a long time connection. Over the years he was always constructive with me and worked on so many area requests. Thank you for this! and RIP
I re-read most of my edit comments with him yesterday. All I can say is - one of the best.
Is it just me or does it feel weird clicking “like” on the first post… today I’ll just see that icon as sending love to all the Saunders’ and a thanks for getting to interreact with David.
Rest in power David! Thanks for your contributions over the years.
He was one of the first editors I interacted with, after dmppanda saw some of my first edits and referred me to him. He wasn’t always the most diplomatic but he gave consistently good advice. Condolences to his friends and family.
