General "slowness" while song recognition

Hi!
I’m using Picard on my M1 MacBook with a fibre connection - and I’m currently re-sorting my whole library with lots of re-naming. I’m using the YA Magic-Script Userscript for sorting with few corrections for my needs. I’m struggling a bit because of slow performance of Picard: When I drag 5 complete CD folders into it it takes very long (3-4 minutes?!) until all the (formerly correct tagged) tracks are recognized → I can watch the number for “open requests” going up and down but not very fast. I remember few months and years ago where it was faster. The server address within Picard is “musicbrainz.org”.

Is this normal - are there other / more server out to try & use - or anything else?

I tried setting up my own Musicbrainz server - spent several hours with Debian & Ubuntu - it kinda worked but still some construction sites until it’ll work 100% for me but atm I don’t want to spent more time into investigating about in-depth errors.

I really like the work that Picard & the Musicbrainz team & app does - highly appreciated! Any chance to get more speed?

Thanks!

3-4 minutes to load 5 albums sounds very slow.

How many requests does it show? Do you have any plugins enabled? Some plugins do extra requests, and for some this can mean a significant number of additional web requests. E.g. Classical Extras, AcousticBrainz or Wikipedia genres can generate a huge amount of extra web requests.

Also what exactly do you do? Do you use scan or lookup on the files? Or does it automatically start loading the releases on the right because the files have been previously tagged with Picard?

Are these being loaded as standalone recordings? (If so, 3-4 minutes sounds fast to me.)

Thanks for your answers!

I got 5 Plugins activated:

AcousticBrainz Tags
AcousticBrainz Tonal-Rhythm
Amazon Cover Art
Derer Cover Art
Last.fm

I can remove the AcousticBrainz plugins and then re-try.

The number of requests of course varies. It usually starts with the number of tracks but once it recognized the albums the number increases. But solving them feels kind of slow.

The counter number for requests get “stuck” very often after eg. 5 songs for several seconds where nothing happens. Then it suddenly advances for few tracks and then stuck again.

I’ve got complete albums here which were previously already recognized (years earlier) by Picard. Now I want to re-name them in my new format. Then I got single tracks as well with a way simpler user script but same or even more search time. And none is “standalone” in the end.

The network itself seems stable - wired connection same as wireless. Enough bandwidth & everything… meaning no problems with other websites and services.

Edit: With turned of plugins for AcousticBrainz / Last.fm it’s faster… so looks like they cause some delay!

Both “AcousticBrainz Tonal-Rhythm” and Last.fm plugin make a separate request per track, last.fm might do additional requests per artist. that quickly sums up and adds to the loading time…

If you have “AcousticBrainz Tags” you don’t need the “Tonal-Rhythm” plugin. The former includes the functionality of the later and only needs one request per album usually.

I just turned these 3 Plugins off and now it’s fast(er agin) - thanks for your tips, that worked quite well!
Really no idea when I turned them on… but must be long time.
