Fun edit search to run on artists you've contributed to a lot

First, go to the editing history of your chosen artist, and go to the last page (you can do add ?page=9999 to the url to jump to the last page) (If you don’t do this, it’ll say “At least 500 edits”. This will show you the total edits related to the artist. For the artist I’m doing (Foreground Eclipse), there are 540 total edits.

Now, click “Refine this search”, and filter to only show edits you’ve made (Editor → Is me). You’ll see the total edits you’ve made.

It’s pretty fun to see how much of a contribution you’ve made to an artist. Here’s a couple of mine:
Foreground Eclipse (been doing a lot of work on them this week): 540 total edits, 228 by me (probably gonna be more like 350 by the time I’m done with them)
Matthew Parker: 1,139 total edits, 895 by me
Demon Hunter: 1,836 total edits, 281 by me
Bad Omens: 1654 total edits, 471 by me

Just figured it was worth sharing, it’s fun to run this on some (maybe smaller) artists you’ve added/edited a lot of.

hah I’ve done this before, here’s some of my favorite artists
Ivy Lab - 2,876 total, 1,752 by me
Chee - 1,759 total, 1,058 by me
Feed Me - 2,714 total, 1,008 by me
ISOxo - 1,193 total, 836 by me

I tend to work on labels a lot as well
Big Fish Recordings - 2,147 total, 2,098 by me
Never Say Die - 1,423 total, 771 by me
Noobish Records - 921 total, 914 by me
Sick Slaughterhouse - 844 total, 832 by me

There’s probably some other artists or labels out there that I’ve worked on and don’t remember lol.
Would be cool to have editor stats on entity pages, something like “last edited by X, most edited by X”

There was talk of adding stats like this to artists. It would be handy to know who the experts are in the field so you can talk to them.

Actually… that is terrifying!! I just looked at handful of artists

Pink Floyd: 161,445 total / 48,305 by me = 29.9%
Levellers: 19,224 total / 15,428 by me = 80.2%
Chumbawamba: 12,589 total / 9,300 by me = 73.9%
Faithless: 14,614 total / 3,991 by me = 27.3%
Skunk Anansie: 6,388 total / 2,535 by me = 39.7%
Culture Shock: 2,220 total / 2,079 by me = 93.6%
Lazy Habits: 1,798 total / 1,590 me = 88.4%
Grasscut: 1,331 total / 1162 by me = 87.3%
Ian Dury and the Blockheads: 7116 total / 3289 by me = 46.2%
Ian Dury: 4417 total / 2852 by me = 64.6%

I know if I tried this on some of the obscure artists I work on these numbers would get silly…

I look at that list of random names and see bands I have followed for decades, but also bands I bump into at random at a gig. Or the Ian Dury ones was a day I got annoyed at the mess that was in Ian Dury and just blitzed it. That week I also hit EBay and bought the back catalogue on CD… editing MB can mean an ever expanding music collection :joy:

I would be scared to do this on behalf of those editors who use the heavy scripts to add multiple links. The ones you see high on the editing charts!

Do this with Bruce

@vzell You broke things. LOLz

First… the trick doesn’t work as it goes out past 9999 pages. The computer is freaking out trying to return results. You are making the CPU cry attempting to add up your edits!! I can’t get it to count past 500,000… :joy:

Scøøb: 4,433 total / 4,291 by me = 96.79%
lil wet wet: 2,741 total / 2,739 by me = 99.92%

“make you look crazy”? We all know we are crazy editing here… but our madness means other people can know what we know. I love editing the obscure artists like you are doing. If we don’t do this who else will?

I met an artist through my job last week. Obscure guy, no hits. But kinda famous. Spent the rest of the afternoon filling in so much missing data on him and his projects here at MB.

Isn’t that the most satisfying of edits? Bringing the obscure to light.

@vzell Okay… got there. After many failed attempts and the server begging for mercy. (Seriously - server was spitting feathers trying to count this high) :joy:

Went to 18419 pages of Vzell edits on just Bruce (!!!)

Total Bruce edits: 992,870 / Vzel edits: 920,934 = 92.8%

Or put that another way, of your 1,004,312 edits 91.7% was Bruce Springsteen…

but that doesn’t include his bands and other projects. (Have you ever edit anything not Bruce related?) Scary numbers. I assume you are already booked into the insane asylum with one of those nice jackets.

Just Wow. That is dedication.

Your first Bruce edit: #25,748,871 Your latest: Edit #153,867,779 or put that another way - 0.7% of the edits on MusicBrainz in the last 12 years was you editing Bruce.

I would make a bot blow apart with sparks. No bot could understand this head of inansity. :joy:

Wait until you see the shirt …

If your shirt does not have a picture of Bruce on it I will be disappointed.

Some of those are moderately obscure, but the fact that 30% of the total Pink Floyd edits are by you is pretty remarkable.

In the past I’ve done deep dives on Jimmie Rodgers (35%) and Fats Waller (41%). Probably my highest percentage, among artists over 1000 or so total edits, is McKinney’s Cotton Pickers (82%).
