Edits, gone!

Very frustrating. I spent all day learning and adding a very complex 4-disc classical release. After saving all, the only thing missing was the recordings. Everything was saved. Navigated from tab to tab and the info was there. i was able to Finish.I was done. everything went well, except the recordings. all of a sudden, al the entries after cd one was gone. I hope its in limbo somewhere, and somehow it will show up .

Could you provide information which release you edited.

I’m guessing they’re referring to Release “Seven Classic Albums” by Leonard Bernstein - MusicBrainz with the open edits.

Not much information about the album that I could find on-line except a bunch of eBay postings and a listing on oldies.com and the German JPC site.

Hi @VinnyVici, thank you for the addition! You have jumped into the deep end, adding multi-disc classical releases; they are some of the most complex.

It is strange that only the first disc got saved, I don’t know what happened.

If you try again, I would suggest adding it more incrementally. You can add one disc at a time through Log in - MusicBrainz, and you don’t need to add all the performers. Just add the name of the track and the composer, then add the performers as relationships later, through this page: Log in - MusicBrainz

Let us know if you have any questions, I’m happy to help.

Sorry to pile on to the problems you are having. Once this issue gets resolved, please have a look at the guidelines for adding classical releases.

The specific issue I see is that the Track Artist should be just the composer. The performers should only be listed on the Recordings.

A classical release will end up looking like this:

https://musicbrainz.org/edit/146927784 will get most of that.

Thank you for your reply. this was my initial unfinished entry. This release had many errors making it confusing. for example it had a floating header that looked like the title of the CD. I realized the titles of the CDs where Disc One, etc.. I made all those corrections, as well as the corrected tracks and credits for all cds. It took me all day - not to mention back pain- only to lose it all. What i found frustrating is that throughout the process, i exited and returned to the edit without losing any of it, giving me a false sense that the data was being saved with no problems. Especially when you’re not allowed to Finish if you have essential data missing. I was able to click Finish. Everything went wrong after trying to link to the recordings; the data just disappeared, leaving only the erroneous CD 1 initial edit.

Yes, that’s correct. Not much info at all, which is why i wanted to share. Lucky me that it was the most complex edit with typos and credit errors I should find for my MB baptism! ugh, I’m no fuming today lol

Thanks for the reply thought I did that when I clicked Finish. I came back to edit a few times and the data was there. The problem arose after trying to link to the recordings. I could not tell which was which, so i exited. the site should not have wiped out my entries that it allowed me to save before trying to link the recordings.

yes. Seven Classic Albums, by Leonard Bernstein, on Real Gone Music - HOW IRONIC! lol

Thanks for your time on this. My edit to this cd, which got wiped out, is very similar to your corrections. The title of the CD was “Disc One”. Tracks corrections very similar to yours. Track 1 credit correction as example:

Leonard Bernstein (db artist), Bernstein (as crdited), ; (transition), Lukas Foss (db artist), Luca Foss (as credited), - Piano, (transition), New York Philharmonic Orchestra (db artist), New York Philharmonic Orchestra (as credited), , (transition) Leonard Bernstein (db artist), Leonard Bernstein (as credited)

Made notes on the track recording years, as printed … many many details that got wiped out.

Looking back, i think it did not wipe this erroneous initial entry because it had recordings data attached to it from my cd rip. Discs 2-4 were entered manually. But why would it wipe my corrections to CD1 as well? IDK

Well, if you try again, keep it simple:

  • track name
  • track artist = composer
  • track length
  • create new recordings, don’t try to find them in the DB

Everything else can/should be done later.

Ok, thank you. I think i will give it another go down the road, but with rip data, and one disc at a time. The printed times do not match the tracks and many other errors. Looking back, I’m glad it went down this way - learned plenty. Thanks again to all.
