I noticed that email notifications of “Note added to your edit…” are arriving 6 hours late. Do they usually lag like that?

No, it is not usual. Since when do you experiment this? Anyone else experienced that too?
Sorry… I’m going to chalk this up to a personal Gmail problem for now. Currently, the time on that edit note email does not match what I remembered it to be.
Before that, I was looking for a direct/private message function in this Discourse, but couldn’t find it. Is it not available here?
It is not available in Discourse, it is available in MusicBrainz though.
