Does this method make sense? This is the first time I've tried it

Please don’t get frustrated.
I have 16,320 MP3 files.
Let’s just say they’re not very well tagged because they come from different sources.
My method is as follows:

  1. I completely cleared the tags using Mp3Tag.
  2. I added the entire directory to Picard, pressed Scan, and saved the tags to the files.
  3. I exited Picard.
  4. I reopened Picard and checked this option: Ignore MBID.

  1. I added my entire directory to Picard.

  2. I pressed Cluster.

  3. I pressed Lookup.

Now I think you can finish the rest manually or Scan.

Thanks for such a full description.

However there were a few bits of information that you didn’t provide:

  1. How your files are currently organised e.g. are they in what you think are albums or are they in a single directory/random directories?
  2. Whether the mixture of full and partial releases on the right is what you are expecting?
  3. A screen shot showing an example of tags in the files (post MP3TAG Clear and Picard Scan).

But in the end, given your unique set of files, if the approach you are using works for you that is success.
