This is my first post on the forums and I hope to be concise. My main goal is to use MusicBrainz as a source of music to rate and discover new songs. I want to track what songs I’ve listened to and what rating I’ve given them. I know the functionality is essentially already there, but I am looking for ideas or brainstorming on best way to do this.
I really just want something like iTunes. I am not even overly concerned with having access to listen to the song in the same place as this frontend - I don’t mind just searching for it on Youtube, Spotify, etc (but it would be extremely cool to integrate ListenBrainz somehow).
My inspiration is literally just like iTunes (I want all songs, not just songs I have). However, I would also like an album cover browser as well.
- Should I just host my own MusicBrainz server and make a custom frontend?
- Should I download the entire database and make something local?
- I made a simple Flask frontend, but realized the API limits will be a limiting factor
Does anyone have any experience doing something like? I have experience in frontend and backend (not a genius by any means), but am just stuck wondering which direction to go.
Any insight small or big would be greatly appreciated!
