Generally we don’t use the “cover” tag for a classical work performed by a classical artist. Should we use this tag if the performer is a pop artist ?
This recording is the origin of this existential question when i wanted deleting a duplicate work ![]()

I don’t think it really matters whether the performer is a “pop artist” or a “classical artist”. What matters is what they actually perform. This is not a performance of Swan Lake; Swan Lake contains many more melodic elements and is over 2 hours long. This is a performance of a new work inspired by Swan Lake, or an arrangement of an excerpt from Swan Lake.
I have a long-standing belief that this type of situation needs a separate relationship type.
There’s an entry for this work on the SACEM site.
With members of the band as composer and a mention of a work in public domain
Perhaps a new work based on Tchaikovski instead of the original work would be a better solution ?
Yes.
And mark it as “based on” the original Swan Lake.
