Greetings,
Just after adding a release for the artist The Worm Ouroboros, I saw that the said release already existed, but for The Worm Ourobouros, which is the name of the artist but with a typo in it. (See the band’s Bandcamp to check it.)
Before I start modifying every recording and release associated to the wrong band’s name, is there a way to change the artist so that this release group is associated to the correct name? I tried correcting the wrong band name, but MB considered it as another artist with the same name (therefore asking for disambiguation).
And in a more general way: is it possible to rectificate a band’s name so that its releases can be associated to the correct artist?
Thanks!

If they’re the same entity, then use the merge function on the artist page, its under the Editing header.
Provide your reasoning for merging the two.

The two artists are complementary: the releases missing on the correct artist page have been created on the misnamed one. Therefore, by merging the artists, the missing releases would be added to the correct artist – with just my release existing as a double of the one on the misnamed artist, which I would later merge with the latter.
Would this justify merging the artists?
(Edit: grammar.)
Yes I can’t see why not - this would be the way the merge system is intended to be used, to fix mistakes like this.
Even if the artist was incorrectly spelt on a release, they should still only point to one artist entity and use a ANV (artist name variation) for the incorrect spelling.
So yeah two merges
- merge the artist entities
- merge the releases

Thank you!
Here’s the edit for merging the artists. Is it correct?

Looks to be good, considering the amount of Yes votes you have!
Haha, thanks!
Concerning merging the releases: Will it become possible only once the artists are merged themselves, or can I try doing it before it’s done?
You can do it now, before you forget.
