I have a very rare case where the album cover is taken down by the artist:
Should any cover art be added? The digital releases have a place-holder, should I add that? I don’t think it would be a good idea to track down the original cover art and add it.
I’ve added whatever Deezer had as cover art, as we’re to represent as closely as possible what the artwork is; same as if artwork is censored etc.
However ol’ Skepta buddy needs to remember that the internet never forgets and it’ll be about in some form and what he’s doing is starting the Streisand Effect (Streisand effect - Wikipedia).
Technically speaking: I would add the original as a separate release, with the original artwork, and set the release type to “expunged”. If they want the artwork gone they will send a cover art takedown request to the Internet Archive, which will be respected.
Depending on how offensive I personally found the cover I possibly wouldn’t bother, though
