A place that is actually two places

The back cover of The Mollusk lists a bunch of recording locations, including “Gener’s apartments” (Gener is Gene Ween)

This is clearly referring to two different places, one in Stockton, one in New Hope, but it’s been added as one place here: Gener's Apartments - MusicBrainz

My plan is to add another place as “Gener’s apartments (2)” in New Hope and add a (1) to the current one. Does this make sense or is there a better solution?

I might would just add the city names instead of numbers, but yes, they definitely are 2 different locations, and both should be listed.

Thanks, yeah, maybe a better idea

We usually wouldn’t add number or anything extra to the title, we use the disambiguation field instead.

So (disambiguation in italics):

  • Gener’s Apartments Stockton location, ended 2000
  • Gener’s Apartments New Hope location, active from 2000

I added the “ended/active from…” information as an example, if you know any similar information that can help editors pick the right one then please do add it to the disambiguation (keeping it brief, if possible).

Yeah, I didn’t think of the disambig field until I went to add the extra place and there it was, the solution all along, heh

The bonus of a disambig is it appears when you are dong a search when adding the Place to a relationship. Makes it much easier to choose the correct one than a (1) or (2).
